New Church Hill eatery opens

pies11It’s not hard to imagine how Church Hill’s newest restaurant got its name.

Buffington and Wine’s Pies, Fries, and Franks opened for business at 2824 E. Broad St. last week. Its menu features – you guessed it – all kinds of pizza, french fries and hot dogs.

Owner Bob Buffington said he and his partner had a soft opening Jan. 24 and will host the grand opening in a few weeks.

“We’re excited,” said Buffington. “It’s been a long time coming.”

The fledgling restaurant doesn’t even have a sign up yet. Buffington said they just put an “open” sign in the door and plan to go from there.

Some of the more eye-catching options include a Nathan’s hot dog steamed in Guinness and fried Twinkies.

Stopped by last night. It’s a bit spare in there right now, but it’s good to see more choices on the Hill.

Hey Amy,
Church Hill’s Soul Food recently opened right behind Buffington and Wine’s on 29th Street a few months ago. Why no story on them?

We stopped in and met the owners Monday night. They are pretty nice guys. We ate the White Rabbit pie. It was amazing! They said they plan to have some seating in the future, maybe even outdoor (yay). They are also in the works of getting top-notch beer and wine, and by that I’m sure they meant no Busch or cheap boxed wine. Another great thing is that they are trying to keep their products local. I give kudos to those who open new eateries in Church Hill. There have been many attempts and failures, which can scare new prospective… Read more »

I don’t think the soul food place is open any longer. Someone reported on CHPN that it closed in December. Good luck to Buffington. You know a few years ago everyone was complaining that there was no pizza nearby, now there are probably 5 places nearby that deliver and another 5 you can pick up from. Only my belt is complaining.

The Soul Food place is still open. They’re open only Friday, Saturday and Sunday…roughly 11-7pm
Veronica, don’t count on Buffingtons ever getting tables outside. They have no outside property. All of the sidewalks around the perimeter are city-owned and placing tables and chairs out there would be encroachment. This will never happen…also, the neighbors will NEVER agree to a zoning change. Buffington’s will find themselves in court before they know it. Carry-out beer and wine from this establishment will also be a challenge.. They better be prepared for a fight.

Wow, it sounds like will is one of those neighbors. Might be nice to have something other than just more pizza.

This pizza is anything but ” just more pizza”. It’s very obvious when extra care is put into food, and all things considered, this pizza is GREAT! Very fresh, a very nice and efficient staff ( which surprised me as they have only been open a few weeks) and very interesting but delicious choices. Seriously, the “Paul Bunyan” is what we had, and I must say that it was one of the best pizza’s we’ve eaten in quite a while. Welcome Buffington and Wine, and thanks.
